Art and Art Therapy
|
Head of Department: Sam Riggs David We encourage the students to use a wide variety of art techniques and provide a wide range of materials to promote expressive and observational styles. The school is full of imaginative and beautiful examples of the student’s work. We aim to support the student’s to appreciate art from different periods and cultures and so take them on visits to galleries museums as part of our programme of enrichment activities. A member of staff who is an art specialist also teaches Art. Art therapy is different to art teaching in that the learning skills and the aesthetic quality of the image are not the primary concern of the Art Psychotherapist. The art can be used as a tool to express sub-conscious feelings that may be difficult to express verbally. This means that the student does not need to be good at art or interested in it. Emphasis is on providing a safe environment whereby the student can express themselves within the set boundaries
